Upcoming Church Services and PCC Events in the Village 2026

If you’re planning a stay in our holiday cottage in beautiful Thornley, or you’re lucky enough to call the village home, 2026 is shaping up to be another warm and welcoming year of community events. From film nights and quiz evenings to seasonal church services and the ever-popular Spring Plant Sale, there’s plenty to look forward to.


Below is a month-by-month guide to what’s coming up, with dates provided by Thornley PCC.


February


Monday 23rd February - Meeting for Spring Plant Sale

Held in the Village Hall.

7.15 pm for a 7.30 pm start. Residents interested in supporting the Spring Plant Sale are encouraged to attend.


March


Saturday 14th March - Film Club

7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm prompt start.


Sunday 15th March - Mothering Sunday Service

9.30 am in church.


Tuesday 17th March - Thornley PCC AGM

In church, 6.45 pm for a 7.00 pm start.


Saturday 21st March - Quiz Night

7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm prompt start. A popular social evening, booking early is essential.


Sunday 29th March - United Church Service

Held in Wolsingham.


April


Sunday 5th April - Easter Day Service

9.30 am. A lovely time to visit Thornley, with spring in full bloom across the Durham countryside.


May


Sunday 3rd May - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


Sunday 24th May - Spring Plant Sale

11.00 am – 1.00 pm. A highlight of the village calendar. Ideal for picking up plants for your garden and enjoying the bric-a-brac and homemade cakes stall and a cuppa.


Sunday 31st May - United Church Service

Held in Thornley.


June


Sunday 7th June - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


July


Sunday 5th July - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


August


Sunday 2nd August - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


Saturday 22nd August - Wedding

A joyful celebration in the village church.


Sunday 30th August - United Church Service

Held in Tow Law.


September


There will be no church service in Thornley during September due to the annual Wolsingham Show.


October


Sunday 4th October - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


Friday 16th October - Harvest Festival

7.00 pm in church.


November


Sunday 8th November - Remembrance Service

9.30 am.


Saturday 21st November - Film Club (Provisional)

Sunday 29th November - United Church Service

Held in Satley.


December


Sunday 6th December - Holy Communion

9.30 am.


Sunday 20th December - Carol Service

6.00 pm. A festive highlight and a wonderful way to experience Thornley’s community spirit.


Friday 25th December - Christmas Day Holy Communion

9.30 am.
