On 30th August, our village came together to celebrate a truly special occasion – the wedding of James and Sophie at St Bartholomew’s Church, Thornley. It was a day filled with joy, love, and community spirit, and we couldn’t be happier for the newlyweds.
A Church Full of Love and Care
Weddings at St Bartholomew Church are always a joy, and this one felt especially meaningful. There haven’t been many weddings in our little church over the last few years, but it remains in beautiful condition, lovingly cared for by the PCC and dedicated friends and families of the village. In the run-up to the big day, the whole community pulled together – tidying, planting, and polishing – to make sure everything looked perfect. Thanks to the efforts of some very green-fingered ladies, the church and its grounds were bursting with colour and life.
A Special Start to the Day in Binks Cottage
The bride, Sophie, made her wedding morning even more memorable by staying at Binks Cottage the night before. Just a short walk from the church, it meant she could relax in comfort, take in the excitement of the day, and even watch her guests arriving at St Bartholomew’s from the window that morning. It was a wonderful way to begin the celebrations and added to the magic of having the ceremony right here in the village.
A Quiet and Beautiful Setting
We are truly fortunate to have St Bartholomew’s at the heart of our community. It’s such a peaceful and intimate place to get married, surrounded by the countryside and steeped in history. The quiet charm of the church made James and Sophie’s vows all the more special, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Continuing the Celebration
After the ceremony, the celebrations continued nearby at Redworth Hall, just 25 minutes away. With its grand setting and welcoming atmosphere, it was the perfect place for family and friends to gather, dine, and dance the night away.
Thornley Village – An Ideal Wedding Location
With so many wonderful wedding venues close by, Thornley is an ideal place for couples looking for a traditional village church ceremony combined with convenient, stylish reception options. James and Sophie’s wedding reminded us all of how lucky we are to live in a village where community, history, and beauty come together so naturally.
Congratulations once again to James and Sophie – your wedding day brought so much happiness to Thornley, and we wish you a lifetime of love and joy together.
